In March 2009, Hospice Calgary took greater charge of our future by taking possession of a new building for our Counselling & Education Centre.  Moving from a leased downtown office highrise, we got the keys to a tremendous community-based building in southeast Calgary.  Our mortgage is now less than our escalating lease costs, promising longer-term stability.  But we need your help to make this new home truly ours.

It is from this location we reach the majority of our clientele - children, teens and adults coping with life-threatening illness and anticipated or sudden death.  From here, we also develop educational programs to share our knowledge internationally.  The new location offers our clients a host of benefits including ground-level wheelchair access, abundant free parking, improved safety and more spaces to learn and heal.  It will serve as an essential base from which we can take our expertise and support to those who need it - at the Centre itself, into the community and into people's homes.

Since late 2007, Hospice Calgary has been raising funds to purchase this perfect space through our Holding Hands, Healing Hearts community campaign.  We've made strong progress, raising more than 80% of our $7 million goal to cover the purchase price, relocation and operating costs of the transition year.  However, we need help in bringing in the remaining funds.  Our goal is to be mortgage-free by 2011 so we can redirect valuable dollars to client programs and services, and really call this home our own.
